Copper and copper alloy scrap can be recycled relatively cheaply, with low power consumption, and with minimal losses. The recycling of copper and its alloys plays an important part in the economics of production and has been undertaken since the copper industry began. The cost of the raw material can be significantly reduced if an alloy can be made with recycled material. If the scrap is pure copper and has not been contaminated by other metals, a high quality product can be made from it. Similarly, if scrap is kept segregated and consists only of one alloy composition it is easier to remelt to a good quality product conforming to standard.
